DEWALT and Milwaukee model numbers, explained
The same tool is often sold under several model numbers: a bare tool and one or more kits. The ending tells you which, and often how many batteries are in the box. It does not tell you everything, so every model page on this site also lists the exact box contents from the manufacturer.
DEWALT
DEWALT model numbers end in a suffix: B means bare tool. In kits, the letter usually names the battery and the number says how many come in the box (P2 = two 5.0Ah batteries).

What the DEWALT ending does not tell you:
- The suffix never tells you which charger is included (2A, 4A or fast charger).
- It does not say whether you get a soft bag or a hard case.
- Combo kits (DCK...) can mix battery types: read the box contents.
Milwaukee
Milwaukee model numbers end in a dash code: -20 means bare tool. In kits the second digit is usually the battery count (-22 = two batteries), but the code does not say which battery.
| Ending | Usually means | Examples we cover |
|---|---|---|
-20always |
Bare tool: no battery or charger [source] | 2853-20, 2903-20, 2904-20, 2953-20, 3403-20, 3453-20, 3601-20, 3650-20 |

-22CXusually |

-22Pusually |

What the Milwaukee ending does not tell you:
- -21 and -22 give the battery count, not the battery size: a -22 can mean 1.5Ah, 2.0Ah or 5.0Ah packs.
- On multi-tool combos, -24 can mean four tools, not four batteries.
- Case or bag is not encoded unless the code ends in P (PACKOUT).
Sources are manufacturer product pages and ToolGuyd's independent model-number guides. Endings marked "usually" have exceptions; the box contents on each model page are what to trust.
