How Rob researches each comparison

I check exact US models, kit contents and published specifications to explain who each purchase suits. These are researched comparisons by Rob Pitman, a licensed electrician (Australia), not hands-on tests.

We do

  • Link every figure to its source and the date we checked it
  • Name the exact US SKU and list what is in each box
  • Show gaps as 'Not published' instead of guessing
  • Compare only figures measured the same way
  • Fix errors and note the change

We do not

  • Run a test lab or claim hands-on testing
  • Give star ratings or numeric scores
  • Take paid placements or let commission pick a verdict
  • Compare DEWALT UWO against Milwaukee inch-pounds
  • Gate anything behind an email address

Sources we use: the manufacturer's US product page and operator manual for specifications and box contents, and an authorized retailer's data for price and stock. Every figure on a page links to its source and the date we checked it.

Exact models: a bare tool and a kit are different purchases, so we always name the exact US SKU and list what is in each box. We read the box contents from the manufacturer rather than guessing from the model suffix.

Gaps stay visible: if a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we show 'Not published' rather than estimating it. Each model page shows how many of our spec fields the manufacturer publishes.

Like for like: we only compare figures measured the same way. For example, DEWALT rates many drills in Unit Watts Out (UWO) while Milwaukee publishes torque in inch-pounds; those are different ratings and we never compare one against the other.

No scores: we do not give star ratings or numeric scores, because published specs cannot support one honestly. Instead, each verdict says who each option suits and why.

Calculated figures, such as total battery capacity in a kit, are labelled as calculations and show the arithmetic.

Money: some links earn us a commission. That never decides a verdict, and we are not paid by any manufacturer or retailer for placement.

Corrections: if something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will check the source, fix the page and note the change.
